Kahliel Spear to return to Robert Morris for graduate season
April 13, 2022
The wait for the decision is finally over. Kahliel Spear will be returning for his third season at Robert Morris after posting career-high numbers with the Colonials last season, Colonial Sports Network has confirmed.
Spear has averaged 12.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in two seasons with Robert Morris. This past season Spear broke out and put up 14.7 points per game to lead all scorers in the rotation and averaged seven rebounds per game.
Spear was named to the All-Horizon League Third Team last season.
The news for Robert Morris will be met with a big sigh of relief after losing multiple players to the transfer portal at the beginning of the offseason as Brandon Stone, Kam Farris, Justin Winston and Chase Cook all entered the transfer portal over the past month.
Even though Robert Morris has had its fair share of exits over the past several weeks, the starting lineup for the Colonials remains mostly intact. Michael Green, Enoch Cheeks, Matt Mayers and now Spear are set to return next season.
Outside of that, the roster will look very different from last season. Instead of recruiting players heavily out of the transfer portal, head coach Andy Toole has gone back to a traditional style of recruiting as he has landed a variety of commitments from several high school recruits.
TJ Wainwright headlines the recruits that have committed and officially signed with the team in the class of 2022. Wainwright, a native of Los Angeles, California, spent his postgraduate season with Montverde Academy (FL) and is a three-star recruit.
Along with Wainwright, shooting guard Ben Krystkowiak, son of former NBA basketball player and former Utah Utes men’s basketball coach Larry Krystkowiak committed to Robert Morris on March 29.
RMU has also already gotten several preferred walk-ons committed to the program, as well as Nathan Frascone, Tanner O’Grady (a local guard from Upper Saint Clair), and today; a guard from New Jersey, Cyril Arvanitis, announced his commitment to Robert Morris as a preferred walk-on.
The recruiting season is not over for Toole and his staff, as they still have five scholarships remaining.
As Spear enters the fifth and final season of his collegiate career, he looks to anchor a roster filled with young and returning talent and try and improve upon a rough second season in the Horizon League for the Colonials.
