Longtime Robert Morris women’s lacrosse coach Katrina Silva announced that she would be stepping down from her duties Wednesday afternoon.

This announcement comes just over a month after coming after a third consecutive MAC Tournament Championship finals, falling to Central Michigan 15-12 on May 6.

“I want to thank my current and former student-athletes, assistant coaches, colleagues and the RMU community for an unforgettable 12 years,” Silva said in a press release. “It’s been an honor to coach the amazing young women that have passed through the program, and I am immensely grateful to have had the opportunity to do so.”

Silva joined the Colonials in 2012 and served as a volunteer assistant. She then served four years as an assistant coach before becoming the head coach in 2018.

“I’m extremely proud of the accomplishments of this team and the championship program that has been built here,” Silva said. “I will cherish the memories that have been made at Joe Walton Stadium, and RMU will always hold a special place in my heart.”

When Silva was a part of the Robert Morris program, the Colonials made the NEC tournament seven of the nine seasons before moving to the MAC in 2022.

Here, Silva led the team to three consecutive regular-season championships along with three consecutive MAC Championship game appearances, winning the MAC in 2021 and clinching a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Also in 2021, Silva took home the MAC Coach of the Year award.

Silva finishes her time at Robert Morris with a career record of 60-37.

“We will begin a national search immediately,” Director of Athletics Chris King said. “We expect a strong pool of candidates to coach a talented group of student-athletes returning and incoming this fall.”
