MOON TOWNSHIP– The Robert Morris women’s soccer team had their senior day Saturday afternoon.

Miyu Kojima, Kaoru Hayashi and Lidia Nduka were honored pregame with flowers and signs before the game.

“[Hayashi] is a huge part of our team,” Assistant coach Brianna Murgi said. “She definitely orchestrates everything in the midfield and is definitely one of our playmakers. Lydia is super dangerous in the attack. She’s really strong on the ball and Miyu has been a great player for us all season. She’s super technical.”

In the game, the Colonials started slow and the Jaguars took advantage. Carolina Kelley headed the ball in to strike first just eight minutes in.

“We started off not really on the strongest foot,” Murgi said. “We let in a soft goal, and we couldn’t come back from that. We had a slow start and we couldn’t really get our intensity right. It just seemed like IUPUI wanted it more and they were able to capitalize and finish their chance.”

However, the second half was a different story. Returning from the break, the Colonials took control of the game, having more chances on goal, seeking an equalizer.

“I believe that was the best half of soccer I think I’ve seen them play in a really long time,” Murgi said. “We just have to learn to play like that for the entire 90 minutes.”

The Colonials had their best chance in the final seconds of the game, a cross had come to goalkeeper, but it was poked free and kicked in by Jillian Marvin. However, the referee deemed it to be offside.

“She worked so hard to get forward like that and she worked so hard to put the ball in the net,” Murgi said. “I didn’t think she was offside, but, the ref controls the game, unfortunately. And sometimes it doesn’t always go the way you want it to.”

The Colonials have lost back-to-back games for the first time this season. They will face Youngstown State on the road in the regular season finale.
