Lucky Jones signs contract with Liége Basketball in Belgium

Former Robert Morris men’s basketball star Lucky Jones signed a professional contract Tuesday and will continue his basketball career overseas.

Jones signed with Liége Basket of the Scooore League, which is the Basketball League Belgium (BLB) Division I.

In 2014-15, Jones helped lead Robert Morris to an overall record of 20-15 (.571), including a mark of 12-6 (.667) in the Northeast Conference, by averaging 14.3 points and a team-high 5.9 rebounds per game.

Head Coach Andrew Toole commended Jones on his accomplishment and achieving his dreams.

“We’re very excited and thrilled as a program that Lucky is going to get an opportunity to continue to play basketball. One of Lucky’s goals when he came here was to become a professional player, and now that dream has become a reality. It’s a great team and a great league for him to participate in, and I hope it’s the beginning of a long and successful pro career.”

During his four years at RMU, Jones was a part of 92 victories, the most by a class in school history.

After a strong season his senior year, Jones was named to the 2015 All-NEC Tournament Team.

He is the program’s all-time leading rebounder with 846 caroms and is fourth all-time in scoring with 1,632 points.

Jones is now the third Colonial to sign a professional contract over the past three years. Former guard Karvell Anderson played for Andrea Costa Imola in Italy, and former forward Russell Johnson signed with C.B. Peñas Huesca, of the Spanish basketball league system, in 2013.
