This week’s male student athlete of the week is Lucky Jones who was chosen for his excellent performances as the RMU’s men’s basketball team extended its winning streak to six games by knocking off both Sacred Heart and Quinnipiac. Jones was part of a solid team effort to knock off two strong teams to earn the wins.
“We knew we were going to be short-handed without Karvel, but we just had to practice short-handed,” said Jones. “It don’t matter how many guys we have — five or six or seven. If we just played hard and just outworked the opponents, and we were able to get the wins.”
The sophomore contributed double-digit scoring on both nights to help lead the Colonials.
“I just try to help my team the best way I can. Before I got suspended, they just kept trying to tell me that I need to go back to the old Lucky,” Jones said. “I turned around, I’m having fun out there, laughing, joking and show energy, and that’s what I’m just trying to show my teammates that it won’t define me, and I’ll do what I’ve got to do to help us out.”
Coming up this weekend, the Colonials face in-state rivals, St. Francis on the road, and then return home to face Mount St. Mary’s.
“We can’t take our opponents lightly. We have to respect the game. Play hard for all 40 minutes,” said Jones.
