Evans spent the fall of 2020 as an assistant at Georgia Southern after serving in the same role under O’Keefe at Appalachian State in 2019.
“He is top-notch when it comes to goalkeeper training and has developed players at all his previous positions,” O’Keefe told RMU Athletics. “Matty will be instrumental in all areas of the program with his desire and tremendous work ethic. He has a great eye for talent and will help us recruit the very best student-athletes at RMU.”
Evans graduated from Seton Hill University in 2017 after starting 36 career games in goal, posting a .744 save percentage in two seasons.
Success has followed Evans through his young coaching career, guiding West Chester University to a 14-3-2 year in 2017 and Lander University to a 16-2-3 mark in 2018 as an assistant coach.
Robert Morris finished with a 4-11-2 overall record and a 3-5-1 conference record in their final season in the NEC in 2019, with the 2020 fall season delayed due to ramifications of the pandemic. When the Colonials do return to the field, it will be in their first-ever season in the Horizon League.
