The Robert Morris University men’s basketball team won their non-conference matchup Saturday night against Ohio University 84-76 at the Charles L. Sewall Center. This win caps off RMU’s fourth consecutive victory over the previously undefeated Bobcats and improves their record now to 4-4.
Junior guard Karvel Anderson was on fire as he scored a career high 28 points off the bench while shooting a perfect 10-10 from the floor, including 8-8 from the beyond the arch. Anderson led the offensive charge for the Colonials but also played a pivotal role on the defensive end of the court as well.
“It’s just basketball to me,” explained Anderson. “I’m just impressed with myself that I sustained the effort on both ends of the floor tonight.”
The JUCO transfer was shooting 38.5 percent from the field leading into the game, but the baskets just seemed a little bit wider tonight.
“Every shot felt wide open,” joked Anderson. “I knew that I would have to step up in some way tonight since we had some injuries slowing guys down. That’s just the way it happened to be.”
Also coming up big for RMU was senior point guard Velton Jones, who scored 12 points and dished seven assists while leading the team with 29 minutes played.
“Ohio is a really good team. They went to the sweet sixteen last season and for us to beat them four years in a row is pretty cool,” said Jones. “Especially with that Ohio team as good as they are, it’s definitely a big accomplishment for us.”
RMU head coach Andy Toole was pleased with his team’s performance, but stressed the fact that there is still a lot of work to be done.
“Hopefully this win tonight shows our guys what they can be capable of,” stated Toole. “We talked in the locker room after the game about saying humble. We are still a 4-4 team, and as good as we played tonight we’ve had other performances where we haven’t played as well.”
Next up for the Colonials are two road games against Campbell and Hampton before returning home for a cross-town matchup with Duquesne on December 15th.
