Following another dominant performance against IU Indy and extending their current win streak to seven games, the Robert Morris Men’s Basketball team has clinched sole possession of the Horizon League Regular Season Championship following Cleveland State’s loss Thursday to Wright State.
The Colonials had to take care of business themselves in their regular season finale against the Jaguars, who they beat 82-68. The win is RMU’s seventh consecutive win and 13th win in last 14 games.
This is the team’s first regular season Horizon League championship, and their highest finish since placing sixth in the 2022-23 season.
RMU women’s basketball head coach Chandler McCabe, who’s having her own impressive season and locked up their own first round bye Wednesday, made her love to the team known on X, saying, “And what was all that noise y’all were talking about before the season. The apology needs to be as loud as the disrespect!”
Other professionals, from Pittsburgh and beyond, also gave praise for the Colonials.
One of the best mid-major turnarounds in the country this season belongs to Andy Toole and Robert Morris. Picked 9th in preseason Horizon poll, started off 2-4 in league play — but have won 13 of their last 14 games and just clinched at least a share of the regular-season title.

While the feat is exceptional for a program who has been expanding and growing from year to year, the job is far from over. The Colonials will now be poised to make a run to the “Big Dance” in March.
Odds currently don’t sit highly for the Colonials to win the whole thing, as only four of the last ten regular season champs in the Horizon League have ended up making it to the NCAA Tournament, but it is only one game at a time for Andy Toole’s men.
Their next matchup will be a win or go home matchup next Thursday, March 6. Tip off has yet to be decided due to the chance it could be a playoff doubleheader with the RMU women’s basketball team.
Now being the one-seed, they will face the lowest remaining seed following the conclusion of Tuesday’s first round games.
