RIT 7 (18-14-6), RMU 4 (20-11-4): Saturday night the Colonials battled for the AHC Championship trophy in Rochester, N.Y. Unfortunately for RMU, the Tigers were too much to handle, ending RMU’s season with a three-goal loss. Senior Greg Gibson put the Colonials on top early in the first period when he found the back of the net just over a minute into the game. However, RIT tied the game minutes later when a puck got past senior goalie Terry Shafer. RIT then took a slim 2-1 lead later in the first period on a power-play opportunity. Senior David Friedmann then answered back moments later with a power-play goal of his own to tie the contest. RIT would find the back of the net for a third and fourth time in the opening period to give them the 4-2 edge going into the first intermission. Senior Brandon Denham got RMU within one (4-3) in the second period, but RIT answered with back-to-back goals to push their lead to 6-3. Senior Matt Cope took advantage of a power play with a little less than seven minutes to play in the game when he put a puck past RIT goalie Mike Rotolo, but RIT would secure the victory and the AHC Crown with a late third period goal. Shafer received the loss for RMU, giving up all seven Tiger goals. He also made 22 saves on the night. It was the final game in an RMU uniform for seniors Shafer, Denham, Friedmann, Gibson, Chase Golightly, Zac Lynch, Evan Moore, Matt Cope and Tyson Wilson.
