MOON TOWNSHIP– The Robert Morris men’s lacrosse team (3-2) continued their 2025 campaign against the Hobart Statesmen (2-3) in the third straight home match for the Colonials.
The Colonials won their third consecutive game by the score of 17-7 Saturday afternoon.
The Colonials started the game off strong with nine goals in the first half. Their hasty passing led to a breakdown of Hobart’s defense. The Colonials were actively passing the ball well and it proved to be effective as the Colonials ended the game by scoring eight goals in the second half.
Junior attacker Calum Brennan led the offensive charge with six goals on seven shots. Eight different Colonials got themselves onto the stat sheet with goals while nine different colonials recorded an assist. Four different Colonials notched their first goals of the season.
On the defensive side, the Colonials held the Statesmen to seven goals, thanks to the reigning NEC Defensive Player of the Week Nate Fetcher’s 23 saves. Fetcher faced 30 shots and surrendered seven goals and picked up the win.
The Colonial defenders had the Statesman’s attack searching for answers in the second half by only allowing two goal. The Colonial defense stifled Hobart’s attack.
Robert Morris played hard and scrappy to get the win and it seemed to have worked but there were eight penalties against the Colonials with five coming in the fourth quarter.
“It wasn’t perfect by any means,” head coach Craig McDonald said. “It was a lot of heart and a lot of togetherness. I’m just happy for the guys. They just went for it and were rewarded for it by how hard they played and how together they were.”
The Colonials look to keep their hot streak alive when they travel to Louisville, Ky. to faceoff against Bellarmine, Saturday March 8 at 12 p.m.
