CORAPOLIS Pa.- Robert Morris men’s soccer team dominated the Canisius Golden Griffins as RMU scored five first-half goals to secure a 5-1 victory at AHN Montour Sports Complex.
The game was moved due to field conditions at the North Athletic Complex.
The Colonials routed the Golden Griffins 5-1. The Colonials had a strong offensive attack this match and it showed on the pitch. The Gilley twins showed out strongly and that was just the start.
The first half was all Robert Morris as they netted five goals against the Golden Griffins. Within the first four minutes of kickoff, Chase Gilley had two goals early on. Canisius scored a goal to cut the lead in half but the Colonials kept their foot on the gas pedal.
A third goal was scored by Chase Gilley’s identical twin Logan Gilley. The Gilley brothers were twinning in the first half as they had early goals. The first 20 minutes of the match was the Gilley show.
“[They are] two very positive guys,” Potter said. They always put a lot of energy in training. It’s cool to see them being rewarded with goals in the stat sheet.”
The Colonials netted two more goals quickly. John Paul Mbuthia scored on a two-on-one opportunity and capitalized to put Robert Morris up by three. As time was winding down in the first half Anass Hadran scored a goal to put the Colonials up by four and solidified an explosive start.
The second half was slow as both teams had scoring chances but could not finish and get the ball in the net.
Canisius was fighting hard to try to get the point but they could not finish in the box at all. However, the Colonials kept applying pressure until the end and it seemed to have worked out. Robert Morris was in control the whole game.
“I just think we found a better way of playing on the ball and it’s leading to some chances,” Potter said.
The Colonials will take on Purdue Fort Wayne on the road on Saturday, Oct 5 at 1 P.M in an important Horizon League showdown.
