Although the month of November is wrapping up, one of the things the month is known for (other than Thanksgiving), is Movember.

The purpose of Movember, founded in 2003, is to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health & suicide prevention.

The main way Movember raises awareness is by encouraging men to grow mustaches and beards throughout the month of November. Within Robert Morris Athletics, no athlete has as good of facial hair as George Souders III, the mustachioed senior punter for the RMU football team.

JH: What got you into punting, and how long have you been doing it?

GS: I’ve been punting since my sophomore year of high school, and my history teacher who was the football coach convinced me to try it.

JH: Why did you decide to just grow the mustache and not a full beard?

GS: As a punter, no one usually knows your name, so I thought hopefully the ‘stache could catch some attention.

JH: What first got you to grow the mustache?

GS: Honestly, the people I saw with ones looked really cool. It’s also a great conversation starter.

JH: What sort of preparation do you do for your mustache?

GS: I first shave the rest of my face. Then I use a trimmer to edge up the stache. I have mustache oil I then use, followed finally by some mustache wax on special occasions.

JH: Do any of your teammates give you flack for the mustache?

GS: They all do like to joke with me about it, but I believe that secretly deep down they all wish they had one as well.
