Gabe Norris and Anass Hadran were announced this afternoon to have won individual awards after the regular season wrapped up earlier this week.
Norris, captain of the men’s soccer team this year, won the Horizon League’s Sportsmanship award for the 2023 season, and Hadran was named to the All-League Second Team.
The Midfield pair played in every game this season for the Colonials. Norris held for the team, playing defensively but still picking up four goals and an assist.
The junior played over 800 minutes last season for the program and started every game this year. He has proved to be a great team player, whether helping players on the opposing side or simply his constant leadership of the squad.
Anass Hadran similarly played every game last year for RMU. The attacking midfielder also started all but once and picked up three goals and four assists this season. The sophomore has seen a great amount of game time, and will no doubt be a key piece for Coach Potter’s team in the next years.
The Colonials saw their season come to a rather abrupt end this Wednesday, after beating Cleveland State 1-0. It was Hadran’s assist that gave the Colonials hope to reach the Horizon League’s postseason tournament, but due to a Wright State advantage in tie-breakers, the Colonials lost out.
Coach Potter’s first season at the helm of the Colonials was by no means a wash, and with these players thankfully returning next year, it builds not only consistency but also a healthy experience. The awards also bring some happy news to what has been a gloomy end to a great season.
