Moon Township, PA– On Saturday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium, the Robert Morris women’s lacrosse team looked to stay undefeated in MAC play. The Colonials came in with a record of 7-2, and 3-0 in MAC. Standing in their way were the 1-3 Youngstown State Penguins. The Colonials would not be denied as they defeated the Penguins by a score of 17-7.

In the first half, the Colonials wasted no time getting on the board as Clio Kerr found the back of the net. The Colonials would be slowed for a few minutes as they hit the post twice and the Penguins tied the game with a free-position goal from Lauren Ottensmeyer. The Colonials would answer right back with a free-position goal of their own by Kathleen Kelly.

From that moment on, the Colonials would not look back as they scored the next six goals. Three from Gianna Anthony and one from Clio Kerr and Mackenzie Gandy. The goal by Gandy would tie the school record for career goals with 128.

Ottensmeyer of Youngstown State would try and carry the Penguins to a comeback as she picked up a hat-trick of her own, but goals from Kathleen Kelly, her second of the day, and Colleen Tifft would keep the Colonials out of reach.

During the last seconds of the first half, Mackenzie Gandy would get a free-position chance and just like she had done 128 times before, found the back of the net, as she beat Youngstown’s goalie Elisia Wells. The previous record for career goals was held by Jenn Collins set in 2009. Youngstown would change goalies for the second half.

The second half was no different then the first as Colonials dominated time of possession and kept finding the back of the net. Jordan Anderson would find the back of the net twice, along with a goal from Alex Eckert. The Penguins would not go down without a fight as Abby Yesko, Aryss Lindsey, and Julia Koterwas scored for Youngstown.

RMU did make a goalie change about half way in the third and Katelyn Miller would make a great save, pick up the ball and spring the Colonials into a fast break where Clio Kerr would complete her hat-trick. With the fates of each team sealed, they each scored one more goal. Colonials Thalie Zolis scored on a fast break, while Penguins Callie Vaudry would score the final goal of the game.

Colonials improve to 8-2 and remain undefeated in the MAC, while the Penguins fall to 1-4. Colonials have some time off to celebrate Easter and will be back in action April 9th as they face Kent State right back here at Joe Walton Stadium.
