The North Athletic Complex, home of Robert Morris men’s and women’s soccer teams, needs improvements to create a better game environment for other parties involved with gameday operations. Robert Morris’s soccer teams have four wins, two losses, and three draws combined at the North Athletic Complex.

The current state of the complex could be better compared to many other soccer stadiums in the Horizon League. The press box seems outdated as it is just a small, basic wooden structure. The benches could be renovated and more comfortable for the players. An addition of lights would also allow the North Athletic Complex to host night matches.

Let’s take a look at the field:

The press box is a two-level wooden structure limited in space and used by live broadcasting crews, SIDs, scoreboard operators, and reporters. That could use an upgrade because it is an uncomfortable area, and the people inside are exposed to the conditions and very cramped. The athletic department should invest in a new press box to accommodate all gameday personnel that use the press box. A new press box would also look great on the field!

The bench area could also be upgraded, as it looks outdated. A new bench shelter would look great as a new addition to the complex. This would be more comfortable for the substitutes so the players won’t have stiff legs from sitting and will be protected from the weather when it precipitates, or there is a lot of sunshine.

Lights would be another excellent addition. They would allow the athletes to play night games, which would be a fantastic environment. Night games are popular among students at RMU, so adding lights could also help boost attendance.

Though these upgrades may be expensive, seeing a change-up at the North Athletic Complex would be nice. The gameday personnel and players would appreciate the enhancements to the area and hopefully can make it the best soccer field in the Horizon League.
