The Robert Morris men’s basketball team will be taking on the Wright State Raiders at the UPMC Events Center for the second round of the 2025 Barbasol Horizon League Tournament Thursday, March 6 at 8 p.m.
Overview
Robert Morris will welcome the Wright State Raiders to Moon Township Thursday night in the second round of the Horizon League tournament. A win for Andy Toole’s Colonials would send them to Indianapolis to play the lowest remaining seed in the semifinals. Robert Morris has never played in a Horizon League semifinal.
Defense in Moon Township
Defense has been a story to watch in Moon Township. Amarion Dickerson (2.5 blocks per game) has been a force to be reckoned with all year on the court. He has been known to have monstrous blocks. He is the ‘keystone’ piece to this Robert Morris team. Alvaro Folgueiras is also a key piece of that Colonial front court.
Folgueiras (1.1 blocks per game and 1.5 steals per game) has been proving to be effective on the defensive side of the ball. He has been consistent on both sides of the court this year. Players like Kam Woods have also been playing a key role on that defensive unit.
Folgueiras and Dickerson have great chemistry off the court and on the court.
“I call him my blood, he calls me his blood” Dickerson said. “There’s not too many forward duos in this league that have that kind of chemistry.”
“[Dickerson], Josh Omojafo, Kam [Woods], those guys are all strong as athletes.” Toole said. “They guard multiple possession of positions. They take pride in defending, Alvaro has done a great job on the backwards. Ryan Prather, DJ Smith, Ish Plet. Those guys have also jumped in and contributed as well.”
Offensive success
The Colonials have improved a lot on offense over the season. Robert Morris has four players who are averaging double digits in points and they are Kam Woods (14.6) , Alvaro Folgueiras (14.3), Amarion Dickerson (13.4) , and Josh Omojafo (10.9). The Colonials are averaging 76.2 points per game this season.
The Colonials bench has also provided some needed contributions Ryan Prather has been a solid player off the bench as he has a 39.3% three point percentage and averages 8.3 points a game. Prather has also been solid on the boards as well. The depth of the Colonials bench helps provide spark in almost every game. The Colonials play a gritty style of basketball and that shows by how they play their game.
Robert Morris has a great challenge ahead of them as they go to battle Wright State. They have all the pieces on both sides of the court to come out with the win. Wright State has had their number over the Colonials, with both games in the season split being separated by less than three points.
Folgueiras and Dickerson will be the keys to success for the Colonials defense but Kam Woods on the offensive side will look to be a difference along with Folgueiras. who will be returning from injury.
A trip to Indianapolis is on the line Thursday. Tip off for the game will be approximately 8 p.m., follwing the women’s game just prior.
