Quick Hits: Men’s hockey has a shutout against Holy Cross
December 7, 2018
PITTSBURGH- The Robert Morris Colonials (7-7-1, 6-4-1 AHC) beat the Holy Cross Crusaders (1-11-2, 1-7-1 AHC) by the score of 2-0 on Friday. Here are the quick hits on the game.
Why it happened:
Luke Lynch scored his fourth of the year after a no-look backhand pass from Justin Addamo early in the second period. Michael Coyne scored an empty-netter with less than a minute remaining to make it 2-0. Francis Marotte made 36 saves in the win as well. This was Marotte’s second shutout of the year, and seventh in his career which moved him into the sole place of second all-time for the Colonials.
What it means:
The Colonials now sit at 6-4-1 in the conference for 13 points, and now sit third in the AHC. The Colonials are now also 4-0-1 when they score the first goal in the game.
Who starred:
Although it didn’t show on the scoresheet, the Colonials played a physical game throughout in this one, highlighted by a few heavy collisions between Justin Addamo and some of the Holy Cross players.
Who stumbled:
The Colonials power play continued to struggle in this one, as the Colonials went 0-2 in the game, with both man advantages coming in the first period.
Who was there:
It was Santa hat giveaway at the game, sponsored by Sewickley Savings Bank and the Colonial Crazies were hosting an ugly sweater contest. This caused a decent sized crowd for the game.
Who is next:
The Colonials will look to complete the sweep as they face Holy Cross again tomorrow at Colonials Arena. Puck drop will be at 4:05 p.m.
