Women’s hockey
RMU 1, Syracuse 2: Friday night the Colonials took on host team Syracuse from the Tennity Ice Pavilion in Syracuse, N.Y. RMU was shutout by Orange goalie Jen Gilligan until early in the third period as senior Maddie Collias was able to get a puck behind Gilligan. Syracuse matched the Colonials goal a little later in the period on a power-play opportunity, which turned out to be the winning goal for the Orange. Colonial’s goaltender, sophomore Jessica Dodds allowed two goals of the 38 shots she saw come her way make it past her.

Women’s Hockey
RMU 1, Syracuse 3: Saturday evening the Colonials tried to win one game of the two game series against the Orange at Tennity Ice Pavilion. The scoring did not come into halfway through the second period as Syracuse for the second straight night got on the scoreboard first. However, freshman Natalie Fraser tied the game for the Colonials her first since early in November as she received a pass from Ashley Vesci. The Orange would pick up two goals in the third period to take the lead again including an empty net goal, which sealed the deal for Syracuse. Colonial’s goalie Jessica Dodds faced 27 shots.
Women’s Basketball
RMU 69, Fairleigh Dickinson 68: Robert Morris traveled to Hackensack, N.J. to take on host team Fairleigh Dickinson at Stratis Arena Saturday. Freshman Megan Smith and sophomore Anna Niki Stamolamprou who both totaled 19 points to lead RMU. The Knights came out of the locker room from halftime with passion as they cut the Colonial’s lead with an 11-2 run. The second half of play featured multiple runs by the Knights but their armor was not enough, as RMU was able to pull out the one point victory. The Colonials shot 46.4 percent from the field including a great second half-shooting performance that saw RMU shoot 60 percent from the field and 69.2 percent from long range
Men’s Basketball
RMU 76, Fairleigh Dickinson 62: From the Stratis Arena Saturday late afternoon, the Colonials put an end to their two game losing skid. Lucky Jones had his best scoring performance of the season as he put up 24 points along with six rebounds. Freshman Marcquise Reed and Sophomore Kavon Stewart also finished with double-double digits in points as Reed had 15 and Stewart finished with 12. Junior Aaron Tate had seven rebounds to lead the Colonials in that category of the final box score. Robert Morris shot 61.2 percent from the field making 30 of 49 attempted shots.
Softball: CSU Dome Tournament
RMU 9, Toledo 0 (5): The Colonials opened their 2015 season Saturday morning in Cleveland, Ohio. Senior second baseman Alexis Schwartzmiller who had three RBI’s to lead RMU in this category. Senior Samantha Santillo and Schwartzmiller both had a pair of doubles in the contest. Tess Apke, Ashley Gerhart, and Kristen Gablet all had one RBI for Robert Morris. Colonial’s pitcher Nicole Sleith was stellar in the circle not giving up a single run and striking out ten batters.
RMU 3, Niagara 1: Later in the afternoon, RMU found themselves in a much closer battle with Niagara. Junior Haleigh Stocks got the win for RMU as she gave up one earned run through 6.2 innings striking out four, as runs did not come by as easy as they did in their season opener hours before. Catcher Jordan Gurganus provided the Colonials with three hits and one run scored. Freshman Olivia Lorusso made a big impact as she knocked in two of her teammates with two hits on the afternoon. Kristen Gablet would bring in another RMU run as she finished with one RBI. Nicole Sleith made her way into the game to get the save, which was the twelfth of her RMU career to ensure RMU the victory.

Softball: CSU Dome Tournament
RMU 5, Bucknell 6: RMU opened their second day of play at the CSU Dome Tournament in Cleveland, Ohio with a battle with Bucknell. Unfortunately, RMU fell one run short and suffered its first loss of the young season. Haleigh Stocks started the game for the Colonials in which she surrendered five earned runs in the second inning. Nicole Sleith came in Stocks in relief going five innings, giving up one un-earned run, and striking out nine Bucknell hitters. Sleith gave up the run the put Bucknell ahead of RMU so she got the loss for Robert Morris and went to 1-1 so far this season. Jordan Gurganus led RMU with hits with three and was credited with two RBI’s as well as a stolen base. Apke, Alexis Schwartzmiller, and Lauren Hacket all finished with one double each.
RMU 2, Bowling Green 3: RMU concluded its play in the CSU Dome Tournament Saturday night against Bowling Green, but did not get the result they wanted, losing a close 3-2 contest. Senior Nicole Sleith was in the circle for RMU. Sleith received the loss as she gave up three runs, all of them earned on three hits as well as striking out fourteen batters and not walking a single hitter over seven innings. RMU’s runs came on homeruns from freshman Olivia Lorusso and senior Alexis Schwartzmiller.
