December 29, 2021
Over the past week, the Omicron variant of COVID-19 has made its rounds both in the collegiate and professional levels, causing cancellations of games and has leagues scrambling to make decisions about what to do about those canceled games.
It was only a matter of time until cancellations would make their way to the Horizon League and they did so Tuesday night.
Tony Paul of Detroit News was first announcing the cancellation of Robert Morris’ game against Detroit Mercy which was scheduled to take place on Saturday afternoon.
Multiple sources: Detroit Mercy men's two games this week, at home vs. Youngstown State on Thursday and Robert Morris on Saturday, are expected to be canceled because of Titans' COVID issues.
Antoine Davis must wait to set the scoring record.
Next game: vs. Oakland on Jan. 5.

On Tuesday evening, the Horizon League sent out a press release with a statement on the policy.
“Contests that are canceled due to COVID-19 are to be considered forfeits unless deemed a no-contest by the Commissioner. League policy authorizes the Commissioner to deem a cancellation a no-contest when the involved institution can demonstrate that extraordinary circumstances led to the cancellation. Given the surge in positive cases due to the Omicron variant, the Council agreed that a high volume of breakthrough cases among vaccinated individuals is considered extraordinary.”
Robert Morris will still play their scheduled matchup on Thursday when they take on Oakland at 7:00 p.m. at the O’rena.
