Entering Saturday’s game against Liberty, Robert Morris had a slight advantage since its opponent owned a 1-7 record.

But by the time the final horn sounded, Liberty’s comeback had flamed out, falling to the Colonials, 10-9, at Joe Walton Stadium.

“I knew they were never going to back down. I think that we got up pretty quickly and lose mental focus. Clearly we had a lot of physical dominance out there on the game,” said head coach Katy Phillips. “We just started to kind of take a break, take some reps off, and that’s when we started to not catch the ball, turning over the ball on unforced turnovers and you knew that she would never let them stop. At the end it was really about battle of wills between the two teams.”

Emily Jamison opened the scoring 57 second into the first half, followed by Corey Karwacki, Kristin Yoviene, Sefany Gale, and Yoviene scoring two more time before the 30 minutes came to an end.

Senior goalie Kaitlin Pentz showed why she has the most win in program history, holding Liberty to four goals in the first frame.

“Having a senior in the net is a huge bonus for any team. She’s got loads of experience in and out of conference. She has changed her game dramatically from a freshman to a senior, to really just play to her strengths.” Phillips said of Pentz.  “She’s very lucky my assistant coach Katrina Silvia is a goalie coach so she’s gotten a lot of great coaching on that end. Pentz is just one five seniors who absolutely makes this season a win-win. We’ve got great senior leadership on and off the field and it an exciting group to work with.”

By the 14 minute mark of the second half. RMU managed to keep them off the board and would take the 10-9 win and move to a record of 6-1.

Several of the Colonials put up multipoint games this afternoon, including Karwacki with three goals and three assists, Yoviene with four goals, and Jamison with two.

“We go into a lot of what we talk about offensively as being a very balanced attacking unit. It’s difficult to defend an offensive unit that can score from multiple different players,” said Philllips. “I think we spent the first part of this game really being a balanced unit, scoring from a lot of different opportunities, and I think we’re going to continue to look to do that. Putting in that team mentality and making sure that we are always looking to anybody to make a play rather than looking to once person to make a play.”
