MOON TOWNSHIP – Trying to expand on a three-game winning streak the Colonials welcomed Horizon League leaders in Youngstown State for their final home game of the regular season. The last time these two teams matched up Robert Morris fell to the Penguins 78-56.

Tonight, was a different story for the Colonials where they completely dominated the Penguins in a statement victory 83-64.

The story of the game was the second half for Robert Morris. Going into halftime the Colonials were down by four. In the second half Robert Morris outscored the Penguins by 23. Both sides of the ball were working for the whole team.

The defensive side of the ball generated a lot of offense for the Colonials through the transition game head coach Andy Toole was able to talk about what he liked in the transition game.

“We got a couple run out layups and Josh hit those two threes in transition which you know were massive. But I thought our activity on the defensive side was really good we talked about it in the first game (vs YSU) Youngstown was able to get wherever they wanted and I even thought in the beginning of the first half we game up a couple of straight line drives that you can’t give to a good team. I thought our activity in the gap was so much better in the second half.”

Late into the game the Colonials were getting into some foul trouble with Kahliel Spear having to sit for a little bit with four fouls. The bench for RMU didn’t give up a bit and came in for Kahliel with the same energy.

“I think obviously Mike [Green] is basically a sixth starter for us, so we trust in his ability to continually play at a high level. I thought Chris Ford gave us maybe the best 15 minutes he’s given us all year long. We still like how Treys coming along, and we know TJs going to get out there and compete. When they are out there and competing and flying around and their defending, I think it just allows us to play at such a better level” coach Toole said.

Continuing the story of defense tonight, the Colonials held Youngstown State to just 32 points in the paint, head coach Andy Toole was able to talk about his interior defense tonight.

“You know it’s hard they do a really good job of utilizing Green, Nelson. I thought there were a couple stretches to start the game and even when they kind of came back in the game they were trying to get some post opportunities. I thought we were pretty good in that regard, I thought what really helped us was the activity, we had some bodies, we kind of waltzed some people up and made them shoot some tougher shots.”

Josh Corbin led all players with 19 points tonight and he went 5-7 from three. Close behind him was Kahliel Spear and Enoch Cheeks each contributed 15 points in the winning effort.

“Josh is one of those guys where if the other team lets up, he’s going to get hot, he’s one of the best shooters I’ve ever played with if not the best shooter.” Toole said. “It’s been tough this year for him because scouting reports are going to be focused on taking his three-point shot away because they see how well he shoots it but today for whatever reason we were able to get him some good looks.”

Spear had a very good game of his own with 15 points and 6 rebounds but was able to put up 4 blocks.

“Coming into this game I knew that regardless of what happens if we get the bye or not that this is going to be our last home game and I wanted to make it special because I’m not going to be able to play here ever again, this is my last game her.” Spear said. “I knew that coming in and I knew how important this game was if we lost this game, we had no chance of making the bye, so I just wanted to come out immediately and set an example for my teammates.”

Robert Morris will end the regular season on the road as they take on IUPUI in the regular season finale Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
