MOON TOWNSHIP– Robert Morris (0-4) had a tale of two halves in its early season matchup against UMBC as the Colonials fell to the Retrievers by a score of 15-7.

The Colonials came out firing Saturday afternoon when goals by Colleen Tifft, Lilli Hadden and Chelsea Coleman set the Colonials up early. After the first fifteen minutes, the Colonials found themselves up by one over the Retrievers.

Head Coach Katrina Silva spoke about the Colonials’ hot start Saturday at The Joe.

“We’ve had a couple of tough starts but this was not one of them,” Silva said. “I was really proud of the effort we put forward in the first half. We worked hard, we battled and we kept ourselves moving along.”

Goaltending has been bumpy in the Colonials season thus far. Jamie Keller and Sydney Riker got their fair share of play with both being pulled at times, but today’s goaltending was very solid as Keller made 16 saves on 31 shots.

Coach Katrina Silva spoke about Keller’s bounce-back performance.

“She’s the defending [MAC] goalkeeper of the year, and she showed it today,” Silva said. “That’s the Jamie [Keller] that we know and love, and that’s the Jamie this team needs. She just needs to keep bringing what she’s doing right now. This was great.”

After going into halftime tied the Colonials would be shut out in the 3rd quarter and allow five goals. UMBC’s offensive borage was led by Claire Bockstie as she scored six goals in the contest.

The only offense the Colonials would be able to generate in the second half was from Jerica Obee. Silva brought up how her team is younger in the sense of finding themselves out so far this season.

“I think we’re a younger team when it comes to figuring ourselves out. Every team is different. You can have a million returners, but how they figure it out is different.”

The Colonials remain on the chase for their first victory and look to put together a full 60 minutes performance as they will travel down to North Carolina to face Gardner-Webb on Wednesday March 8.
