The Mountaineers are perennial contenders for the Sun Belt Conference title and occasionally are ranked in the AP Top 25.
App State finished 10-4 last year with a loss to Western Kentucky in the Boca Raton Bowl, their seventh straight bowl game appearance.
This will be the second FBS team that the Colonials will face in 2022 as part of their non-conference schedule, as they will play Miami (OH) on Sep. 10.
It will be a tough challenge for Bernard Clark’s team in the middle of the year as they do not look to repeat the same result the last time the Colonials played an FBS team, a 45-0 loss in the hands of Central Michigan.
