Robert Morris Looks to Snap Eight Game Losing Streak Against Charleston Southern
November 4, 2022
This week Robert Morris will head down to Charleston, S.C., to take on Charleston Southern in a Big South matchup.
Robert Morris will come into this matchup at 0-8 (0-3 Big South), while Charleston Southern, 1-7 (1-2), comes into this game just mustering one win on the season, defeating Bryant 24-23 on Oct. 15.
Colonial Sports Network had the chance to talk to head coach Bernard Clark ahead of the matchup against the Buccaneers.
After a scary injury in last week’s game against Appalachian State, Clark said linebacker Ricardo Watson had been cleared by the doctors to play, so he will start in this matchup. At the same time, redshirt junior Joe Casale will miss this game due to an injury.
Once again, junior Anthony Chiccitt will get the start at quarterback, making this his third start in a row.
“He’s getting a little more confidence, and he’s making better decisions,” Coach Bernard Clark said.
Last week the Colonials had more time of possession than App State but were only able to put three points on the board.
Clark said that they are going to try and control the ball because that will keep it out of Charleston’s hands because “they do a great job at scoring points.”
Going on from that, coach Clark said they have to use their time to score touchdowns, not only field goals.
In the last four games, the Colonials have given up an average of 42 points, so this week’s goal is to try and limit Charleston Southern’s point scoring, starting with defensive first downs.
“If we can get them into second and long and third and longs, that will give us a chance to get off the field more and slow them down,” Clark said.
While starting the season 0-8 is not ideal, Clark discussed that he liked the way his team has been practicing over the past week to prep for the Buccaneers on Saturday.
“Even though we are 0-8, our guys are still focusing in practice and still trying to get it done. They still want that victory,” Coach Clark said.
It will be interesting to see how Robert Morris will matchup against Charleston Southern on Saturday at noon as they are still searching for that elusive first win on the season.
