With the college basketball season just under three weeks away, on Tuesday, the Horizon League announced its preseason poll for the upcoming season with Robert Morris University selected ninth out of the 11 schools.

The 2022-23 Horizon League Preseason Poll and All-League Teams were released today with @YSUWomensHoops named the #HLWBB favorites for the 2022-23 season and @CSU_WBasketball's Destiny Leo (@destinythreeo) tabbed as the Preseason Player of the Year.

The Colonials come into this season after securing their best finish in recent years with a 14-15 overall record and an 11-11 record in Horizon League play which was good for an eighth-place finish on the season.

The team also hosted their first postseason home game in the Horizon League and made it to the quarterfinals before falling to eventual Horizon League Tournament champion IUPUI.

But it is a new season for Robert Morris and they come into this season with a depleted roster with forward Sol Castro out due to injury, Ashya Klopfenstein, and Natalie Villaflor transferring, and Nina Augustin and Esther Castedo graduating putting some holes in the roster heading into the season.

The Colonials come in with a younger group this season which is one of the reasons why they are ranked low in the preseason poll as they bring in a total of five freshmen to the team.

Youngstown State was selected as the top team in the Horizon League finishing with eight first-place votes followed by Green Bay with two and Cleveland State with one.

Following the top three teams, Northern Kentucky, Milwaukee and IUPUI round out the top half of the poll.

Lastly, Oakland slots in seventh followed by Purdue Fort Wayne, Robert Morris, Wright State, and Detroit Mercy rounding out the preseason poll.

The Colonials will start their 2022-23 season at home when they take on former NEC foe Saint Francis at 11 a.m. on Nov. 7.
