CLEVELAND, OHIO – The Robert Morris Colonials (16-17, 10-11 Horizon) were on the road at Cleveland State (21-12, 15-6 Horizon) in the quarterfinals of the Barbasol Horizon League Tournament. The Colonial efforts were significant, but time ran out on their season as they lost a thriller by a score of 75-70 in overtime.

Kahliel Spear and Michael Green III were in their final game as part of the Colonials tonight. After the match, Kahliel Spear spoke about what this game was like for him.

“I don’t think anyone could watch that game and say that we didn’t play well.”

In his final game as a Colonial, Spear posted eight points and had eight rebounds with one assist, a steal, and a blocked shot. Spear gave it his all tonight, playing through fatigue and cramps. He went down in the second half but said, “it was just a cramp…nothing serious.”

For Green, he was on fire tonight for the Colonials in his final game. He came off the bench and played well. He posted 14 points and two rebounds and had four steals and two blocks. Green was a key piece for the Colonials in this game. He was the spark for the boys in blue tonight. Also, Green and Spear were staples in their times as Colonials.

Throughout these two seniors’ time at RMU, we saw nothing short of greatness. Kahliel Spear came to Robert Morris with uncertainty and turned that into greatness. He was one of the leaders on this team and went through the covid year. Spear thrived under Coach Toole.

Spear increased his scoring every year. When he came into the program, he averaged 9.9 points per game. During the COVID 2020-21 season, he produced 14.7 points per game, and in his final season as a Colonial, he saved the best for last when he produced 15.8 per game. He thanked Colonial fans for giving him a chance and welcoming him with open arms.

“I am always grateful for the coaches and the Colonial fans for giving me a chance, and you always believed in me. Y’all supported me and I appreciate that.”

Spear ends up with a shooting percentage over 50%.

Michael Green III came into this program last season. His role on the team would expand as the season progressed. We saw the massive potential for the kid out of the Bronx. In his two-year tenure under Coach Toole, “MG3” was able to be the point guard that Toole wanted in his system, a guy who can run the offense and get the shooters open.

Green gave us a “Bobby Mo Moment” when he hit the game-winner against IUPUI. Green scored over 500 points as a Colonial in two seasons. He averaged 9.6 points per game in his two years. Green and Spear developed a relationship that goes beyond the court. You could tell these two guys were always on the same page every time they stepped onto the court.

It was a brutal way to go down on your final game. Spear and Green left it all on the line, but the team came up short. However, what these two guys did for this program, the Colonial family will forever be grateful for the basketball they produced.
