James Westry is looking to continue his football career elsewhere after three seasons at RMU. He will be playing for Lackawanna College next season after a very successful campaign with the Colonials last season.

Westry was one of RMU’s most productive players last season, with 460 receiving yards. He was very good at making the most out of each catch, boasting an explosive 13.1 yards per reception well above the team average of 10.9 yards per catch. Westry was George Martin’s second favorite target with 35 receptions, second only to D’Andre Hicks, who finished the season with 38 catches.

Westry will look to prove himself at the JUCO level next season and continue to be the explosive playmaker he was for the Colonials last fall to earn an opportunity to play at the FBS level, which is a route many players use as a stepping stone to the NFL.

With Westry transferring, the receiver position at RMU has now lost its two most productive receivers from last season. Football, however, is all about the next man up and luckily for the Colonials, the next men up are ready for the job. Demonte Martin, Jaylon Brown, and Jack Oedekoven look more than prepared to step in and fill their shoes in the receiving game in what will certainly be a new offensive look for the Colonials in 2022.
