MOON TOWNSHIP– With a win against no. 12 Kennesaw State, the Robert Morris Colonials could have had a chance for a Big South regular-season championship. However, after a 45-21 loss to the Owls, those hopes have flown away.

“Home Sweet Home” Gone Sour

Heading into their match against Kennesaw State, the Colonials had won seven straight games in the confines of Joe Walton Stadium, dating back to a 24-20 win against Bryant on October 26, 2019.

That streak was snapped against the Owls, however, as the Colonials allowed more than 40 points at home since a 41-7 loss to Wagner on November 17, 2017.

Owls Soar Through Air

Despite only throwing the ball 12 times, Xavier Shepherd, signal-caller for Kennesaw State, was markedly efficient through the air. Shepherd finished the day 8-for-12 through the air for 185 yards and 4 touchdowns, making the most of his performance.

In the previous matchup between the Owls and Colonials in the COVID-affected spring 2021 season, Shepherd was efficient as well, completing all three of his passes for 45 yards and a touchdown en route to the 35-0 Kennesaw State shutout.

Jackson Continues Strong Performances

Despite the lopsided score, Alijah Jackson managed to have a successful day on the ground for the Colonials, rushing 20 times for 95 yards and a score.

This is the second week in a row in which Jackson found paydirt, as in the Colonials’ 38-35 nailbiter against Hampton, Jackson scampered for 127 yards and two touchdowns, one in the air and another on the ground.

The Colonials head to the Jersey Shore to take on Monmouth in West Long Branch, New Jersey next weekend for their final road contest of the season.
