Earlier this afternoon, the University of Utah, now an ASUN foe of RMU, named former men’s lacrosse head coach Andrew McMinn as head coach of their men’s lacrosse team. McMinn is a 2005 graduate from Providence College, where he was a three-time All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) selection for the Friars. The goalkeeper also helped lead Providence to two MAAC regular-season titles, a MAAC tournament championship and an appearance in the 2004 NCAA tournament. McMinn then received his masters degree in sport management from RMU in 2014.

McMinn has been a part of the Colonials’ coaching staff every season that the team has existed except for one. He was named head coach of the team in 2011. In his ten years as coach, he led the Colonials to consecutive Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament championships, NCAA championship berths in both 2018 and 2019, and the NEC regular season title in 2012. During his time as head coach, the Colonials reached a school-record of 76 wins. McMinn was named NEC Coach of the Year in both 2012 and 2017, exiting the program as the winningest coach in school history.

McMinn joins the Utes after they finished last season with a 4-7-0 overall record and will likely be facing off against his former team at some point this season.
