Dale Starr’s first season was an extremely successful one. He brought the Lady Colonials to within just one win to capture the NEC title.
After a heartbreaking loss in the rubber match last year to Sacred Heart, the Pioneers’ 13th appearance (NEC record) as an organization, the Lady Colonials look to improve on their three conference losses last year starting on August 27th. On the court this season, many new faces and young, relatively inexperienced faces are to be expected.
The Lady Colonials graduated five seniors at the conclusion of the last academic year, freshman middle-hitter Becky Jay along with five other new freshmen incoming for this season will look to juniors: Lindsey Monger, Amanda Craig and senior Hannah Veith.
“We have to show the younger players basically how to perform on the court and what is expected of us,” said Monger.
With all of this new, young talent that is guaranteed to be a solid foundation for years to come in the program, Starr will make an attempt to go just as far this year.
The NEC preseason poll places RMU at the same spot at which they finished last year, second. The Lady Colonials and Starr himself will use this doubtfulness as fuel and try to improve on that one heartbreaking loss at the end of last year.
The entire roster now knows what it feels like to be so close to success and capturing the title yet not being able to execute.
“Even though we pretty much have a new team this year, we are trying to teach the incoming freshmen everything that we know so we can start off where we left off last season,” explained Monger.
