Volleyball releases 2021 schedule

The Robert Morris volleyball team released its 2021 fall schedule yesterday. Their season is set to include a 30-match schedule, as well as 18 Horizon League games. RMU’s fall slate will have 12 home games, 10 road matches, and eight neutral site affairs.
The Colonials kick off the fall 2021 on the road against Maryland Eastern Shore on August 27th for the Knights Fall Classic. They have a 3-1 all time record against the the Hawks. RMU will take the court twice on Saturday, August 28th. Their first match is against Manhattan who they have a 1-1 record against and then will wrap up the invitational against host Fairleigh Dickinson. The Colonials have a record of 35-12 versus the Knights, their former conference opponent.
The Colonials will host their annual Labor Day Weekend tournament at the UPMC Event Center on September 3rd and 4th. RMU will start off the tournament against Liberty, who they will be playing for the first time since 1992. They end the day at 7:00 with a match against Idaho, who they will be playing for the first time in program history. The Colonials wrap up the invitational on September 4th against Duquesne. Last season was the first times the two teams didn’t play against each other since 1997. In their last meeting, RMU got their first win over the Dukes in 12 seasons with a three-set sweep.
The Colonials will continue non-conference play at the George Mason invitational on September 10-11 where they will play three neutral-site matches. They will take on both Coppin State and Morgan State on September 10th. The Colonials are 9-0 against CSU and 6-3 against MSU. They close out the weekend on September 11th against Marist. RMU holds a 13-4 record against the Red Foxes.
The final non-conference bout for the Colonials will take place on September 16th and 17th at West Virginia’s Mountaineer Invitational. RMU will look to extend their winning record against the Retrievers to four when they take on UMBC. The Colonials will take on Penn State on September 17th for the first time since 2009 and only the fifth time in program history. RMU will wrap up non-conference play later that afternoon as they take on George Washington for the first time in program history.
Horizon League play kicks off with a four-match homestand that begins on Friday, September 24th against Cleveland State. The Colonials then take on Oakland on Saturday, September 25th.
RMU will start the month of October off with matches against Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday, October 1st and IUPUI on Saturday, October 2nd. The Colonials will then travel to Kentucky on Tuesday, October 5th where they will take on NKU for their only matchup of the season. They will then return home on October 8th for a matchup against proximity rivals Youngstown State.
The team will play three road matches the next week, as they face Milwaukee on Thursday, Oct. 14, Green Bay on Friday, Oct. 15, and UIC on Sunday, Oct. 17.
They will return home for a lone matchup against Wright State on October 19th before starting a stretch of five consecutive road matches against Oakland (Saturday, Oct. 23), Cleveland State (Sunday, Oct. 24), Purdue Fort Wayne (Friday, Oct. 29), IUPUI (Saturday, Oct. 30), and Youngstown State (Friday, Nov. 5).
RMU will finish up its season with a three-match home slate. They are set to host Milwaukee on November 11th, UIC on November 12th, and Green Bay on November 14th for Senior Day. The Horizon League tournament is set to take place November 19th through 21st.
