Robert Morris athletics had a busy past weekend as every active team had games either at home or on the road. Here is a quick round-up on the away games that RMU Sentry Media couldn’t send a reporter.

10/12/18

Volleyball: RMU – 3; Fairleigh Dickinson – 0

The RMU volleyball team (8-13, 2-4 NEC) swept the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights (2-18, 0-6 NEC) three sets to none in a Friday night matchup. The individual set scores were 25-19, 25-22, and 25-21 respectively. All three sets went straight to Robert Morris when Knights player Kati Quaintance delivered attack errors that ended each individual set. Allie Yurkovich came in clutch for the Colonials as she put up 22 digs, along with Whitney Brown, who had 21 assists and Emma Granger who had 15 kills for Robert Morris.

Volleyball: RMU – 1; Sacred Heart – 3

Although RMU won their match on Friday, their overall run in the Northeast Conference hasn’t been great as it dropped to the Colonials’ overall record of 8-14 and a 2-5 run in the NEC when RMU dropped Saturday’s matchup to the Sacred Heart University Pioneers (12-6, 5-2 NEC) three sets to one. The Pioneers won the first, third, and fourth sets, all while the Colonials won the second set. The individual set scores were 25-23 Sacred Heart, 25-17 RMU, 25-18 Sacred Heart, and 25-21 Sacred Heart respectively. The Pioneers won the first set on a kill from Sarah Ciszek. The second set was won by RMU when Pioneer player Sarah Ciszek had an attack error. The third set was won by the Red Flash when Colonials player Maria Alfano had an attack error. The last set was won by Sacred Heart put up a service ace. The Colonials play again on Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. against the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils.

Cross Country: 9th out of 10th place at Canisius Alumni Classic.

The RMU Colonials nearly fell into the last place in the Canisius Alumni Classic after Buffalo claimed first place with 45 points. The Colonials’ own Sonnie Sauvinsky held the fastest time for RMU with 20:41:2. The Colonials will be going to the Northeast Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 27 at a time to still be determined.

Rowing: Scrimmaged WVU/DUQ

The RMU rowing team scrimmaged against West Virginia and Duquesne on Allegheny River this past Saturday. Each team’s varsity eight and varsity four’s scrimmaged together. Robert Morris continues their season on November 3rd at the Head of the Occoquan.

Men’s Soccer: RMU – 0; Fairleigh Dickinson – 1

The Robert Morris Colonials (4-8-1, 2-2 NEC) fell 1-0 to the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights (5-5-4, 2-2 NEC) in a second overtime period. The Colonials lost after Knights player Ahu Obhakhan scored at the 105-minute by flicking the ball, subsequently heading into the box. The lone goal was assisted by Noah Chia. The Colonials return home to host the LIU Brooklyn on Friday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m.

Men’s Hockey: RMU – 0; Bowling Green – 6

The RMU men’s hockey team (1-1) got shutout by the Bowling Green University Falcons (3-1) 6-0 on Sunday night. Each period saw the Falcons score two goals. The goals in the first period were scored by Lukas Craggs (assisted by Cameron Wright and Carson Musser) and Connor Ford on a power play (assisted by Brandon Kruse and Max Johnson). The goals in the second period were scored by Kruse on a power play (assisted by Johnson and Wright) and by John Schilling (assisted by Sam Craggs). The goals in the third period were scored by Kruse on a power play for the first goal (second of the game and assisted by Connor Ford and Johnson) and the second goal of the period was scored by Casey Linkenheld (assisted by Jacob Dalton and Matt Meier). The Colonials picked up 15 shots to the Falcons’ 33 shots. The Colonials will be returning home for a weekend home set with Army on October 19 and 20 for the first two games of American Hockey Conference play with both games tentatively scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m.
