MOON TOWNSHIP — Many Robert Morris teams played on the road over the course of this past weekend, so here is this week’s round-up to catch you up.

2/8/19:

Women’s Hockey: RMU – 5; Penn State – 1

RMU women’s hockey (12-11-4, 10-2-1 CHA) gave the Penn State Nittany Lions (10-12-6, 4-8-1 CHA) the business after RMU took game one 5-1 on Friday.

The first period opened up slowly for both teams until around the halfway point of the period when Brooke Madsen scored the lone goal for Penn State with an assist from Anna Promersberger at 11:39. Emily Curlett tied the game for RMU just seconds later to put the score at 1-1. Curlett was assisted by Sarah Quaranta and Natalie Marcuzzi.

Curlett played hero for Robert Morris again when she opened up the second period with another goal, this time on a power-play. The power-play goal was assisted by Lexi Templeman and Jaycee Gebhard to lead RMU 2-1. Templeman chipped in another power-play goal for Robert Morris unassisted to add to the lead to make it 3-1. One last goal was scored by the Colonials in the second period as Gebhard scored the fourth goal with the assistance of Amber Rennie to end the period with a 4-1 lead over Penn State.

The third period saw very minimal action as Gebhard was able to secure the final goal for Robert Morris to win the game, 5-1. Gebhard’s goal was assisted by Templeman and Rennie.

2/9/19:

Men’s Lacrosse: RMU – 10; Penn State – 27

The defending NEC champs, the RMU men’s lacrosse team (0-1) fell to the No. 4 Penn State Nittany Lions (1-0) on Saturday by the score of 27-10.

The first quarter opened up with a goal from each Robert Morris and Penn State within a minute of each other. This put RMU and Penn State in a 1-1 tie. RMU’s first goal of the season was scored unassisted by Tyson Gibson. Momentarily after the Colonials scored, the Nittany Lions scored two more unassisted goals to lead the Colonials 3-1. At the 5-minute mark of the first quarter, Brad McCulley scored a man-up goal with assistance from Gibson to be down 3-2 against Penn State. In the final five minutes of the first quarter, PSU managed to score three more goals to lead Robert Morris 6-2.

PSU opened up the second quarter with four consecutive goals, with the last goal being a man-down goal for Penn State. This advanced the Nittany Lions’ lead to 10-2. Robert Morris added another goal to their sunken score when Gibson scored an unassisted man-up goal to be down 10-3 against Penn State. PSU finished out the second quarter with eight more consecutive goals, two of those being man-up goals, to lead Robert Morris 18-3.

The third quarter opened with four more consecutive goals for the Lions to lead RMU, 22-3. Robert Morris picked up their fourth goal after this occurred when Corson Kealey scored with an assist from Shane Majewski to be down 22-4. Robert Morris continued to struggle even more after PSU tacked on three more goals to lead 25-4 with about 4:30 remaining left in the quarter. In the remaining time left, RMU surged to score three more goals to end the quarter 28-4. The three goals scored in the third quarter by RMU were from Ryan Smith, Gibson and Kealey respectively.

The fourth and final quarter opened up where Robert Morris scored two more additional goals scored by Dan Tadeo and Matt Schmidt. Schmidt’s goal was a man-up goal, which made the score 25-9. Penn State scored two more goals and RMU scored one more to end the game with the 27-10 loss going to Robert Morris.

The men’s lacrosse team continues their season-opening road trip next weekend when they visit the Georgetown University Hoyas (1-0) at 12 p.m.

Women’s Hockey: RMU – 2; Penn State – 2

RMU women’s hockey (12-11-5, 10-2-2 CHA) finished out their weekend set with College Hockey America rival Penn State Nittany Lions (10-12-6, 4-8-2 CHA) with a 2-2 tie on Saturday.

Penn State opened up the scoring in the first period on a power-play goal by Jessica Adolfsson to lead Robert Morris 1-0. Adolfsson’s goal was assisted by Izzy Heminger and Kelsey Crow. This goal ended up being the only goal of the first period.

The second period is where RMU tied the game on a power play goal at 1-1 thanks to Amber Rennie, who had assistance from Emily Curlett and Maggie Lague. No other goals were scored in the second period by either team.

The third period saw RMU open up with a goal from Caitlyn Sadowy with an assist from Natalie Marcuzzi and Sarah Quaranta. This put Robert Morris ahead 2-1. Penn State tied the game at 2-2 on a power play goal by Abby Welch with assists by Sophie Slattery and Rene Gangarosa.

After nobody scored in the overtime period, Robert Morris and Penn State ended the game in a 2-2 tie.

Robert Morris continues CHA play again when they visit the Lindenwood Lions (6-18-2, 2-11-1 CHA) on Friday Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. and Saturday Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. respectively.

Track and Field: Fourth fastest time recorded in RMU history in 4×400 meter relay at the Spire Division I Indoor Classic.

The RMU track and field team took a limited number of people to the Spire Division I Indoor Classic on Saturday and they came back with a good amount of impressive results. The 4×400 meter relay team finished eighth with a time of 3:54.29, which is the fourth fastest time in RMU history. Anna Chasovskaia led the group with Madison Mueseler, Brooke Oldfin and Samantha Felton following suit. In the triple jump, Nina Radisavljevic finished in fourth place with a distance of 11.65 meters. Ivanna Jones finished in eighth place in the high jump with a distance of 11.39 meters. Lastly, Estelle Katende finished second in the shot put with a distance of 13.73 meters. The track and field team ends their season next weekend when they compete in the Northeast Conference Championships all day in Staten Island, N.Y. on Friday Feb. 15 and 16 respectively.
