MOON TOWNSHIP– The Robert Morris women’s basketball team announced the addition of a new assistant coach on Tuesday. Amani Franklin returns to the program after last being with the team during the 2017-18 season.
During her time as an assistant coach, the women’s basketball team won a school-record 25 wins and made it to the NEC tournament final where they lost to Saint Francis University, 65-55
Speaking to RMU Athletics, head coach Charlie Buscaglia said, “It’s a great joy to have Coach Franklin back with the family. We look forward to her bringing back her passion once again to serve our program.”
The team was eighth in the NCAA with a scoring defense at 54.1 points per game, ranked in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll, and made it to the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) with Franklin as part of the coaching staff.
Before coming to Robert Morris the first time, Franklin was the director of women’s basketball operations at Winthrop, and for two years before Winthrop, she was a staff support associate at the University of Kentucky, where she graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics and a minor in business.
At Kentucky, Franklin also played for the Wildcats, where she led Kentucky to the 2010 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight.
