The newly renewed Robert Morris women’s hockey team will play their second-ranked opponent in the last two weeks. As the number seven team in the nation, the Clarkson Golden Knights come into Pittsburgh for a doubleheader against the Colonials.
The Colonials hold a record of 3-3-0 following their two losses to 14th-ranked Princeton. The Tigers shut down the Colonials’ offense and only allowed two goals.
In the first game, the Colonials could only generate 15 shots on net to the Tigers’ 40.
In net, Maggie Hatch played all 60 minutes and ended the night with 34 saves. Despite winning back-to-back CHA Offensive Player of the Week in game two, Morgan Giannone did not get her name on the scoresheet as she had only one shot.
Along with Giannone, the rest of the Colonials could not solve Corniea Uma, as she picked up the 24-save shutout, and Emma Gorski had 30 saves for the Colonials.
Both Clarkson and Robert Morris come into this weekend with high-powered offenses. Clarkson has found the back of the net in six games 21 times. Leading the way for the Golden Knights is Anne Cherkowski with four goals.
The Colonials sit ninth in goals, with 19 in their six games. Morgan Giannone leads the team with four goals of her own.
The difference between Clarkson and Robert Morris that may be seen this weekend is both teams’ defense. The Golden Knights have only allowed six goals in their six games, while Robert Morris has allowed 22 goals in their six games. It will be a big challenge for the Colonials to solve this Golden Knights defense while keeping them off the scoresheet.
The first game will be on Friday at 3 p.m., while game two at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Both games will be streamed on FloSports.
