A lot of positives came out of the nine game road trip the Colonials concluded this past weekend.
Their win against Yale, in the Nutmeg Classic, on Friday, November 25, broke the school record for longest winning streak in a season. After defeating Yale in the first game of the Nutmeg Classic, the Colonials took on the Quinnipiac Bobcats in the championship game.
Unfortunately for the Colonials, their win streak came to an end in the 3-2 loss to the Bobcats. The Colonials finished second in the Nutmeg Classic above Connecticut and Yale.
In the two games of the Nutmeg Classic, junior goaltender Kristen DiCiocco earned a shutout in a 1-0 win over Yale, and turned away 20 shots in Saturday’s 3-2 loss against Quinnipiac.
Her performance in both games earned her the Laurie Belliveau Outstanding Goaltender of the tournament award, as well as the nod as College Hockey America (CHA) Goaltender of the week.
Currently, DiCiocco ranks seventh in the nation in goals against average.
While DiCiocco earned honors for her work, freshman, Rebecca Vint was named to the CHA Honor Roll after compiling a 12 game point streak.
The Colonials will have an off weekend coming up, and will then welcome the Syracuse Orange to the Island Sports Center December 9 and 10. The matchup will not only be their first CHA series this season, but their first home game since October 15 as well.
