MOON TOWNSHIP– The Colonials’ tough non-conference schedule continued as they welcomed the number one team in the nation, Boston College, to a regular season bout. The Colonials could not match the power of the Eagles as they would fall in this game by a score of 23-2.

Boston College came out strong in this game as they put it away in the first quarter and outscored Robert Morris 17-0. The Eagles had their way for the most part in that first quarter, as they could attack the middle of the field.

However, a bright spot for the Colonials in this game is that they limited the free positions for the Eagles.

“I did, in fact, like our defense today,” head coach Courtney Grove said. “We did have a few questionable yellow cards, but you can not control the officials. You have to play through and be smart.”

The Colonials had two goal scorers today as Jenna Irwin and Lilli Hadden scored. This was Irwin’s first goal on the season, and this is the second goal for Hadden, who scored against Ohio State in the season opener.

The Eagles had 13 different goal scorers on the day, led by Belle Smith, who had four goals. The Colonials played much better in the following three quarters as they could limit Boston College’s opportunities.

So far, it has been a tough start to the season for Sydney Riker as she was pulled early in the game. Some of Riker’s struggles have been a result of some tough competition. That means that backup Megan Shepley has an opportunity to play and looks good.

But at some points, just like with Riker, many unmarked players have been in the middle, and both goaltenders have been left to dry. It should be Riker to be the starter for the season, as it should be her net come conference play.

The Colonials’ tough non-conference schedule continues as they travel to Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa., to take on the Bison.

It will be their twelfth meeting, and in their last matchup, the Colonials took the loss by a score of 15-8. This game will be at 1 p.m. and will seek their first win of the season.
