Wydo to continue career in ECHL
March 27, 2015
Six days after finishing his career as the most prolific scorer in the history of the Robert Morris hockey program, Cody Wydo is headed to the minors.
Though, he only had to travel 60 miles to his new home.
Wydo, the first Colonial to be a Hobey Baker Award finalist, signed with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL Thursday.
“We are proud of the contributions [Wydo] has made with the Colonials,” head coach Derek Schooley said. “I am sure [he]will be successful in [his] next step in hockey.”
Wydo isn’t the only former RMU player to lace up his skates for the Pittsburgh Penguins’ affiliate, joining the ranks of Kurt Wright, Justin DePretis, Aaron Clarke, Chris Margott, Sean Berkstresser, Brock Meadows, Brooks Ostergard and Chris Kushneriuk, all of whom have played for the Nailers.
Despite the fact that he is embarking on the next chapter of his career, being a Colonial is something that the senior will always treasure.
“Winning the program’s first league and tournament championships are things I will remember forever,” he said. “[Playing at RMU] was a great experience for me and let me continue my career to the next level.”
