The Robert Morris men’s hockey team is off to a banner start to their season, defeating the Miami RedHawks in a home-and-home series in dominating fashion over the weekend.
Sophomore Walter Zacher, and freshmen Croix Kochendorfer and Trent Wilson were all named as AHA weekly honors, the conference announced Monday.
Zacher was the no-surprise AHA’s Forward of the week, scoring four goals in the two-game stretch including a hat trick Saturday night in the Colonials opener. It is his second career weekly honor.
Kochendorfer was tabbed as the starting goaltender for both games against the RedHawks, playing in his first two games ever on the NCAA stage, winning both of them. He stopped 48 shots in the series and had a .960 save percentage allowing one goal in each contest. His two-game performance earned his the conference’s Goaltender of the Week.
Trent Wilson also shined in his first game in college. In the 5-1 win Friday night in Oxford, Wilson scored two goals and an assist for a team-high three points.
The Colonials look to continue their hot start with another home-and-home series with the Niagara Purple Eagles. The series begins in Clearview Arena Friday night at 7 p.m.
