Apologies for having nothing on day one except for the honorable mention Colonial SportsCenter (CSC) received at the Pinnacle awards from here at the College Media Association (CMA) fall Conference in Chicago, Illinois! The wi-fi in the hotel has not been our friend. However, we are going to have a few videos posted here tonight, including a very special guest!
As for a brief recap of our day, this Friday, Nov. 1, we got to attend some great sessions. Also today, Carrie Moniot, our Student Media Advisor, Brooke Smith, our sports editor, and I, the editor-in-cheif, presented our presentation titled “What’s this Broadcaster Doing in our Newsroom?”
Personally, I thought our session went really well, and we plan to resubmit it for the CMA Spring Conference as two separate sessins: one for advisors and one for students. Essentially, our session touched on how RMU Sentry Media has converged all of the student media outlets on-campus into one entity. We had a decent turnout and had attendees asking us non-stop questions, all of which was fantastic!

Additionally, we (Brooke Smith, Nick Buzzelli, John Klocko and myself) have learned A LOT to bring back to RMU Sentry Media to improve what we are already doing! Also, we had The Sentry “critiqued,” or thorn apart might sum it up better, but it was useful and eye-opening advice that we plan to put into action.
Aside from the conference today, we had some amazing special access tours at 720 WGN Radio as well as the CBS Chicago TV station thanks to our awesome advisor, Carrie Moniot and RMU professor Yvonne Bland! We also saw Cloud Gate, aka “The Bean,” and took a stroll down Michigan Ave.
