If you remember back in August I ranked my 10 favorite VeggieTales movies. Thinking that the series I grew up with was put to rest in 2022 with the cancelation of “The Veggie Tales Show” and that it would be reduced to a meaningless podcast that was made to cash-grab the original IP. But that all changed when the VeggieTales social media posted this tweet.
Good news! A LarryBoy feature film is being developed! Coming to theaters in 2026! pic.twitter.com/zDwZAgR2Ph

The last time Big Idea and Universal tried their hand at a VeggieTales feature film it turned in 2008’s The Pirates who don’t do anything. The film bombed only making 13 million worldwide! If you’ve seen the movie you’ll realize why, the title is true they literally did nothing for an hour and a half. With plots that go nowhere, songs that are ok, and somehow a very confusing story. I believe this is due to series creator Phil Vischer and Mike Nawrocki having no control over the story. They even took out Kurt Heinecke’s signature music. When all three were allowed to do their thing, they turned out. “Johana A VeggieTales movie” Which ended up on my Top 10, was funny, had heart, and a great story. I say all this because the writers and cast have not been announced but if they want to make a great movie, they should let the “Big 3” back.
“LarryBoy is a fan favorite – who doesn’t love a superhero that has plungers on the side of his head?! The fans are always asking to see more of him. With Larry Boy in the lead role, we know we can deliver an entertaining movie for the whole family” said Leslie Ferrell, Senior Vice President of Big Idea, Content Group Universal Pictures
Not much is known about the film at Big Idea originally posted on Instagram that it would be called. “LarryBoy Begins” hinted at an origin story but the post was deleted. Vischer took the same day, to X to say he had not been contacted to write but the film is still a while away. “Hmm. The LarryBoy movie has a name now. I still have no idea who is writing. Still haven’t been contacted about participating.” As of right now, all is known it is set to hit theaters in 2026. A long but interesting road is ahead for the plunger-headed hero to return to Bumblyburg and save the day from Fibs, Rumor Weeds, or a very Bad Apple.
