What do all of these acronyms mean? Robert Morris University’s Chapter of the Society for Collegiate Journalists (SCJ) is taking on New York City for the College Media Association’s 2013 Conference.
Eleven students will be representing the club, including SCJ President John Klocko, SCJ Secretary Brooke Smith, SCJ Treasurer Nick Buzzelli as well as SCJ members Brooks Bratten, Bri Ferguson, Jon Fisher, Leah Fleischel, Audrey Gardner, Patrick Ryan, Haley Sawyer and Paul Wintruba.
All of these students play roles in various components of RMU Sentry Media, whether it is being editors of The Sentry, on-air talent for shows like RMU Live or Colonial Sports Center, working behind-the-scenes or reporting.
The conference will allow them to attend a variety of sessions that will improve their knowledge of the media in addition to great networking opportunities.
Some RMU students are even presenting sessions of their own. Brooke Smith, Jon Fisher and Student Media Advisor Carrie Moniot are presenting, “What’s this Broadcaster Doing in our Newsroom?” that focuses on media convergence. Haley Sawyer and Audrey Gardner are presenting, “Rapid Fire: Flashcasting at its Finest” that will demonstrate how to produce flashcasts. Paul Wintruba and Bri Ferguson are presenting, “Issues in Media Convergence” about the challenges that come along with converging components of the media.
Students will leave from Pittsburgh Saturday morning and travel to New York City via MegaBus (look for updates from the infamous MegaBus radio), attend sessions on Sunday and Monday and leave for home after an afternoon off in the Big Apple on Tuesday.
Stay updated on their trip throughout the first part of Spring Break, which will include live broadcasts, stunning photographs, posts on sessions and more on this blog: SCJ in the Big Apple: CMA National Convention 2013.
