MOON TOWNSHIP – RMU men’s soccer (1-2-1) would kick off their alumni weekend on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at the North Athletic Complex. Here they would go head-to-head with the Northern Kentucky Norse (1-2-2) in their first conference game. Despite efforts from both teams, the game would end goalless.
The Colonials were eager to make some noise after their loss to Mercyhurst on Monday, which was their first meeting ever. On the other hand, the Norse were hoping to continue with the momentum from their previous win against Western Illinois.
The match would start off fairly even, but RMU would quickly garner a majority of the possession. In the first half, they would have 4 corner kicks and 4 shots. While NKU would have a mere 2 shots and 1 corner kick.
Even with these chances for the Colonials, the first half would remain at 0-0 for its entirety.
The second half continued to get hotter as each team would give up 11 fouls. Overall, there were 38 fouls (RMU 20, NKU 18). This would also lead to a total of 3 yellow cards throughout the game.
As both teams were eager to score first, tensions rose, and the physicality increased. There were more shots in the second half, requiring both goalkeepers to step up. RMU’s Josh Lane and NKU’s Nic Lemen both made vital saves in the ladder stages of the match.
Robert Morris had a total of 9 shots throughout the game. John Paul Mbuthia had the most with 3. Despite the tenacious efforts from both teams, the final score would remain 0-0.
The Colonial’s will turn their attention now to cross-town rival, Duquesne. They’ll take on the Dukes Tuesday, September 17 at the North Athletic Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 P.M.
